Captain Layla was a sky-sailor. She commanded 'The Windrunner,' a wooden sailing ship that sailed not on the sea, but through the clouds using giant helium balloons and silk sails. Her most prized possession was a magical wind-compass that could locate the warmest breezes and guide the ship through dangerous storms. But one stormy night, the wind-goblins snuck aboard and stole the compass, escaping into the clouds.

Without the compass, The Windrunner was stranded in a bank of freezing grey fog. Layla refused to give up. She stood at the wooden helm, looking out into the mist. She noticed a flock of glowing cloud-swallows flying past. 'Follow them!' she commanded her crew. The swallows led them through the fog to the Floating Island of Mist, where the wind-goblins lived in houses made of woven clouds.

Layla landed the ship and approached the goblin leader. Instead of fighting, she offered them a trade: a bag of glowing star-pebbles they had gathered from space in exchange for the compass. The goblins, fascinated by the sparkling stones, happily agreed. With the compass back in her hands, Captain Layla steered The Windrunner back into the clear blue sky, ready for her next grand adventure.
