Bashar was a baby grizzly bear who loved everything about the forest. He loved climbing birch trees, scratching his back against pine trunks, and eating sweet forest honey. But there was one thing Bashar did not like: the river. The water moved too fast, and Bashar was afraid he would float away. His mother and sister swam across easily, leaving Bashar whimpering on the grassy bank.

A family of wild ducks noticed the sad little bear cub. The mother duck, Dana, swam closer. 'The river is friendly if you respect it, Bashar,' she said softly. 'Start by just dipping your paws.' Bashar looked at his family on the other side and took a deep breath. He put his front paws into the cool, clear water. It felt refreshing, not scary.

Dana and her ducklings swam alongside him, creating a gentle path. Bashar took another step, then another, until his body floated. He started paddling his paws, just like his mother taught him. Slowly but surely, Bashar swam across the river. His mother hugged him, dripping wet, and Bashar realized that facing your fears is much easier when you have friends encouraging you.
